Topic: Smoking in films: European efforts raised by ENSP
Dr. Elisabeth van Gennip has a PhD in Biology from Leiden University.
Since 1988 she has been active in the health care sector in applied research
and latterly in research management. Her own research areas include costs
and effects of health information systems and quality of health care organisations.
Dr van Gennip was project leader of both major national and European projects.
One of her projects was the development of an accreditation system for
hospitals. This project resulted in the establishment of the Netherlands
Institute for Accreditation of Hospitals (NIAZ) in 1998.
She was director of NIAZ from 1998 until 2002. In 2002 Dr van Gennip developed
a new national organisation for the accreditation of bachelor and master
studies (NVAO).
From 1st February 2006 she has been the chairman of STIVORO, - for a smoke
free future. STIVORO is the national centre of expertise for tobacco control
in the Netherlands.
In November 2006 Dr van Gennip raised the issue of smoking in films in
the European Network for Smoking Prevention (ENSP), which resulted in
the ENSP statement of May 2007.
